I will tour Classical Greece in 2020 I never meant to go back to Europe, but this is a good trip. Ancient Greece is the cradle of western civilization. I got my third passport.
I work with Cynthia Griffin at Globus Monograms. She set up my Greece Escape. I fly on March 21, 2020. I fly from Nashville to Heathrow in London, then on to Athens. I will return by the same route: Athens, London, Nashville.
Rick Steves in Greece - Athens was the center of Europe in the 5th century B.C. The real Parthenon sits on the Acropolis. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena. The adjacent Erechtheum was dedicated to Athena and Poseidon. The Agora is nearby. Socrates taught there. The temple of Hephaestus is well-preserved. Greek architecture evolved in stages: Doric, Ionic & Corinthian. Ancient Greece peaked and faded as all civilizations do. Rick Steves samples the local cuisine. The Greeks won their independence from the Ottoman Turks in the early 1800s. Steves visits the National Archaelogical Museum. Statues are idealistic. Alexander the Great ruled during the Hellenistic period. Steves heads for the Oracle of Delphi. The temple of Apollo is there. Leaders consulted the Oracle.
