Nutrition is the science of food. I lose weight by burning calories. I need to get my stomach down. Exercise and the rate of metabolism are important.
Food categories -
1 Vitamins - The sun makes vitamin D..
2 Minerals - Calcium is a mineral.
1 Proteins build muscle: meat, eggs & milk.
2 Fats insulate organs.
3 Carbohydrates are energy sources. They enter the blood as sugar called glucose.
I get glasses at the VA. They give me eye exams. I am near sighted and have astigmatism, although my eyesight improved with age.
Pupils are the dark spots in the eyes. They open and close to regulate light. Irises are muscles that control the pupils. Irises are colored.
Retinas are screens at the back of the eyeballs. Optic nerves connect retinas to the brain.
Ear canals produce wax to keep ears clean. Do not allow wax to harden. Dr. Richard Quisling in Nashville removed wax from my left ear using a laser.
Outer ears funnel sound to the ear drums. The brain receives vibrations.
I have 32 teeth, 16 at the top, 16 at the bottom. 4 canines tear. 8 incisors chop. 8 premolars crush. 12 molars grind. Tooth enamel is the hardest thing in the body. Cavities are caused by a film of food and bacteria called "plaque." Plaque forms acid that erodes enamel.
I need to brush my teeth. Keep a clean tooth brush and a tube of tooth paste. Use Listerine!
I have 640 muscles. They cause my body to move. Muscles are attached to the skeleton by tendons.
Massage helps circulate the blood. Massage arms, legs, hands & feet! Use a hot, wet towel to massage the face, neck & ears.
My heart pumps blood through my body. My heart beats 75 times a minute. Blood carries food and oxygen to the cells. I have 5 quarts of blood.
Heart attacks are the number one cause of death. They occur when arteries are clogged by cholesterol and fat. The VA tells me my blood pressure is perfect.
Strokes are a leading cause of death. Strokes occur when blood cannot get to the brain.
When I breathe, my lungs take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide.
My skeleton has 206 bones. They meet at the joints. Cartilage covers the ends of bones. Arthritis is a disease that breaks the cartilage down.
9 CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM - The brain and spinal cord are the central nervous system. Peripheral nerves branch out through the body. Nerves send and receive signals to and from the brain.
Minimize stress. Fight anxiety and depression. Eliminate causes.
I need to stay calm while driving. Do not get mad when people run red lights or pull in front of me. Do whatever it takes to avoid an accident! Stay calm! Be careful. Go slow.
Find a pillow, one that supports the head and the neck. Sleep on a comfortable mattress. Lie in a good position.
Dreams are thoughts and images during sleep. They are irrational. I had wet dreams at 14. They felt good, although I did not understand what they were and thought something was wrong with me. No one talked about sex. Dreams are disturbing now. I want them to stop.
Wear comfortable clothes. Velcro tennis shoes and ankle socks from Walmart.
Get on the treadmill. Build yourself up for Greece. I need to move my body. Do not sit at a computer for long periods. Get up and walk.
Aging continues from infancy through childhood and adulthood to maturity and death. Aging is linked to changes in the cells. Cells wear out, and people die from age-related diseases. Heart attacks, strokes & infectious diseases are the chief causes of death.
Sit in the sun this summer. Use your chair.
Life expectancy is 75 for men, 80 for women. I want good health and longevity. Aging can be slowed by body maintenance. I will go into my 80s and cross the line standing.
15 HEALTH INSURANCE
As a disabled veteran, I use the VA Medical Centers. I have Medicare A, which is for hospital. I reinstated Medicare B, which is for outpatient visits.
I take Synthroid for my thyroid gland and B12 for neuropathy. I get them from the VA. Hormones from the thyroid control metabolism, the conversion of food into energy. The thyroid is located at the front of the throat.
Nerve disease is called neuropathy. If there is too much sugar in the blood, it damages nerves. Muscles get weak.
Exercise takes sugar out of the blood and gets it to cells, where it is burned for energy! The brain releases endorphins when I exercise. Endorphins are chemicals that fight neuropathy. Weight loss lowers blood sugar.

Bacteria and viruses are neither plants nor animals. They are in a different category. Germs. Microbes. We can be "infected" by these. When I had the bacterial infection in my neck, the VA used antibiotics and steroids to reduce the swelling. Antibiotics kill bacteria but do not kill viruses.
19 LAST CHAPTER
Self-discipline! Stop masturbating. This is part of the second mission given to me by the real God. Avoid sexy images. Stay porn. Giving up alcohol was huge. I quit drinking, August 16, 2012.
Plan ahead. Go through your stuff. Read papers and books. Clean the apartment! Tub and toilet. Play the CDs: Elvis, ABBA, CHESS, Shania, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan & Jim Colyer songs! Mine are on youtube! Life is half offense, half defense. Lay low when the situation calls for it. Get with Michael! He and James are the most important people in my life. Take care of yourself.
I pay rent and need to spend time in my apartment. Stay off the roads when there is no reason to be out. Traffic is terrible. Conserve money and gas. Make the truck last.
Be smart about food. Eat eggs at the Waffle House and Cracker Barrel. Drink water instead of coffee. Eat vegetables from Kroger's salad bar. Vanderbilt Cafeteria, Cookout, Captain D's & Wendy's.
Do not be affected by the seasons, the amount of daylight or darkness. Or the temperature. Follow the solstices & equinoxes. Follow the orbit of the earth around the sun. It revolves 67,000 miles an hour.
The hardest thing was dealing with the death of my parents. They had a chapter before me, and I am having one after them. It is nature, and I cannot change it. Life leaves something to be desired. Trust the real God.
Karen is gone. It happened quick. 3am on Christmas Eve, 2017. I have been given a mission in my second 40. I will stay in touch with Michael, helping in whatever way I can. I must go on!
I need to apply the ideas in this paper and in the Strategy. Make them my lifestyle, not just words on paper.
Masturbation must stop. Everything comes to an end, and masturbation can come to an end, too. Neuropathy and arthritis make it hard to get around. My hands, fingers, feet & toes have been affected. I do not have good balance. My arms are weak. My thighs also. Arthritis is in my neck. I have not been able to find a pillow. My stomach is swollen. I wonder how much of this is related to that tooth being pulled. I need to get on the treadmill every day. Keep it up. Exercise fights neuropathy. It takes sugar out of the blood and gets it to the cells. Excess sugar damages nerves. Exercise allows the brain to release endorphins, chemicals that fight neuropathy. I have posted notes around my apartment saying FUNCTION.
I am getting up in the night to pee too much. Maybe it is related to the prostrate. I do not know. Diet is important. I have got to stop eating fatty foods and eating when I am not hungry. 3 or 4 bites, and hungry generally goes away. People tend to keep eating after they are no longer hungry.
My eyes are a problem now. I have been rubbing them because crusty sleep builds up. I have got to keep my fingers out of my eyes.
